Merseyway's Father Christmas grotto was free on December weekends last year, dates released 2 November. One Stockport Santa visit is already confirmed for 2026.

The best-known place to see Father Christmas in Stockport is Merseyway, and last year it cost nothing. The shopping centre’s grotto ran on three December weekends as the end of a free family trail, first come, first served. It has not announced its 2026 plans; last year’s went up on 2 November.

Only one Santa visit in the borough is dated for 2026 so far, and it is for a particular group of families. Everything else below is last year’s, from the organisers’ own listings, so you know who to watch.

  • Paid Santa visits last year ran from £12 a child at The Place to Play in Reddish to £15 a child at a Heaton Mersey charity breakfast.

Confirmed for 2026

Stockport Deaf Children’s Club: Breakfast with Santa. Saturday 5 December 2026, 9.30am to 11.30am, at Walthew House, 112 Shaw Heath, Cale Green, SK2 6QS. A family breakfast, festive activities and a visit from Santa, open to deaf children, their siblings, CODAs (children of deaf adults), parents and carers. £5, booked by email to deafservices@walthewhouse.org.uk (Stockport Council events).

Merseyway: the Great Gingerbread Hunt

Last year’s Merseyway Christmas was built around a trail. Mrs Claus had lost her gingerbread men, and children followed a trail map and clues through the centre, guided by elves, to the Gingerbread House, where they met Father Christmas in his grotto and got a sweet treat from Mrs Claus. A letter-writing station in Adlington Walk was open daily from 1 to 21 December. Both were free (Merseyway, published 2 November 2025).

The year before, in 2024, Merseyway ran a free Christmas Express Depot on 7 and 8 December, where children sorted Santa’s post before meeting him (Stockport Council events, archived). The theme changes each year; the free weekend grotto has been the constant.

Reddish: The Place to Play

A play session with a meet and greet with Santa, at 9.30am and 12.30pm, £12 per child, booked through the venue (Stockport Council events, archived). The council’s listing carried the same event on 6, 13 and 20 December.

Heaton Mersey: breakfast with Santa

A breakfast with photos with Santa and a Christmas gift for each child at the Heatons Centre, raising money for Signpost for Carers, which supports unpaid carers across Stockport. £15 for children, £10 for adults (Stockport Council events, archived).

What is not on

  • Lyme Park has no Father Christmas in its 2026 programme. Its Christmas is a decorated house, choirs and afternoon tea; details on our Lyme Park at Christmas page.
