The full route is out: on 31 July 2027 the race comes down the A6 past Mersey Square, along Nangreave Road and through Offerton and Marple to Strines.
The route the Tour de France Femmes will take through Stockport is now public. On Saturday 31 July 2027 the riders will come down the A6 through the town centre, past Mersey Square, then head east through Offerton and Marple towards the Peak District.
Stockport Council published the detail on Thursday, alongside an interactive map of Stage 2 (Stockport Council).
Stage 2 runs 154.4km from Manchester to Sheffield, with almost 3,000 metres of climbing. After Stockport it goes through Marple and New Mills, then over Winnats Pass and Snake Pass (Grand Départ GB).
The roads it uses
The council describes the route through the borough. We traced it on the official stage map. In order, the race:
- comes in on the A6 from Levenshulme, through Heaton Chapel and Heaton Norris
- runs down Wellington Road through the town centre, past Mersey Square and Viaduct Park
- turns left off the A6 at Nangreave Road, past Aquinas College
- goes through Offerton on Marple Road
- passes the new Marple Hub in Marple
- leaves the borough on Strines Road, heading for New Mills in Derbyshire
The official start of the racing, kilometre zero, is on Stockport Road in Levenshulme. The riders roll out of Manchester city centre before that point. That means the race is already live when it crosses into Stockport, about a kilometre later.
By our measurement of the official map, about 15km of the stage is inside the borough. The riders leave it at roughly kilometre 16.
What the council said
Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Protection, said communities along the route would be looking forward to seeing the riders.
“From the A6 through Offerton and Marple, there will be plenty of opportunities to experience the excitement of the race right here in Stockport,” he said. “I’d encourage everyone to take a look at the interactive map and start thinking about where they might watch from.”
He said council teams were planning fan zones and events for race day.
What is not known yet
The council has not yet published:
- the time the riders are due through Stockport
- which roads will close, and for how long
- where the fan zones will be
We will add each of these when they are announced.
What it means for you
- Pick your spot. The route through the borough is about 15km, from Heaton Chapel to Strines. The A6 through the town centre and the climb out through Offerton and Marple are both on it.
- Expect road closures on the day. The A6 and Marple Road are main routes. No closure times have been given, so do not plan around any yet.
- Businesses on the route can find resident and business information on the Grand Départ GB site.
- Explore the map yourself on the official Stage 2 page.
The trophy for the race visited Weir Mill and Merseyway earlier this month, as we reported in September. For current closures in the borough, see our Stockport roadworks page.
