Tai Po Boy in Hazel Grove and a Bredbury takeaway were rated 1 in September. 28 of 89 September scores fell short of a 5; all 23 October ones so far are 5s.
Two more Stockport food businesses have been rated 1 for hygiene, after a September inspection. Their scores were published on the Food Standards Agency register after our September roundup, which we read on 5 October. A 1 means major improvement is necessary.
That roundup found 37 September ratings, all of them 5s. The register now holds 89 ratings from September inspections. Of those, 61 are a 5 and 28 are lower. We read the register for Stockport Council’s area again this morning (FSA food hygiene ratings).
October’s ratings are still coming through. So far 23 have been published, and every one is a 5.
A rating is a snapshot of what an officer found on the day of the inspection. It is not a verdict on the food, and a business may have made improvements since.
The two rated 1
| Business | Address | Inspected |
|---|---|---|
| Tai Po Boy | Former White Hart, 259 London Road, Hazel Grove SK7 4PL | 21 September |
| Grace Taste Takeaway & Catering / Byte Sandwich | 48 Osborne Street, Bredbury SK6 2BT | 11 September |
The register breaks each rating into three scores. For both businesses, the officer’s confidence in management scored 20, the band the FSA describes as major improvement necessary. Tai Po Boy scored 15 for hygiene and 15 for the structure of the premises. Grace Taste scored 10 for hygiene and 20 for structure. On these scores a lower number is better.
Rated 2 and 3
Three businesses were rated 2, which means improvement is necessary:
- Se7en, 438 Gorton Road North, Reddish (2 September)
- August Thai, 34A Buxton Road, High Lane (9 September)
- Taj Mahal, 391 London Road, Hazel Grove (24 September)
Six were rated 3, which means generally satisfactory:
- Cheadle Hulme Spice, 43 Station Road, Cheadle Hulme (2 September)
- Sea&Salt, 193 Moss Lane, Bramhall (2 September)
- Jams Newsagents, 92 Longford Road West, Reddish (8 September)

- MMJ Store World Food Supermarket, 46 to 50 Foxland Road, Gatley (17 September)
- Family Shopper, 397 to 399 Hempshaw Lane, Offerton (24 September)
The other 17 below a 5 were rated 4, which means good. They include Stockport County’s catering at Edgeley Park and The Horseshoe Inn at High Lane.
Why September changed after we first counted
The council does not publish a rating straight away. A business has 21 days from being told its rating to appeal, and the rating goes on the register once that window has passed. A business with a 5 can ask for it to be published early. So top scores tend to appear first, and lower ones follow weeks later.
That is what happened here. We said on 5 October that the month was probably not complete, and that not every late rating would be a 5. We have added a note to that story.
The same will apply to October. Its 23 published ratings so far all date from 1 to 15 October.

The borough’s register now
Stockport Council’s register lists 2,707 businesses. Of those, 326 are exempt and 256 are awaiting a first inspection. That leaves 2,125 with a published rating.
| Rating | Businesses on 2 November | On 5 October |
|---|---|---|
| 5 (very good) | 1,725 | 1,708 |
| 4 (good) | 265 | 258 |
| 3 (generally satisfactory) | 92 | 91 |
| 2 (improvement necessary) | 31 | 30 |
| 1 (major improvement necessary) | 12 | 10 |
| 0 (urgent improvement necessary) | 0 | 0 |
The ten businesses rated 1 in our September roundup are all still on a 1. With Tai Po Boy and Grace Taste, that makes 12. Nobody in the borough is rated 0.
Every business has the right to appeal its rating within 21 days, to publish a right to reply on the register, and to ask for a re-inspection once it has made improvements (FSA guidance for businesses). None of the businesses named above has published a right to reply.
What it means for you
- Check before you order. Each business name above links to its entry on the FSA register, with the date of the inspection. In England businesses do not have to display their sticker.
- Look at the date. A rating from September says more about a kitchen today than one from 2024.
- Report a problem. You can report a food business to the FSA, which passes it to Stockport Council’s food safety team.
All figures are from the FSA register as read on 2 November 2026 and will change as more inspections are published.
